|What if the thing you loved most could actually become your career?
For Alex P. Taylor, that question started with nachos.
On New Year’s Eve 2019, while ending the night over two huge plates of nachos, Alex found himself wondering whether something he loved could become something more: a creative outlet, a career, maybe even an entirely different life.
And one question stuck:
Could he one day leave a traditional career behind and actually make a living doing this?
It became something of an ultimate dare.
Alex began exploring nachos up and down the East Coast, sharing the restaurants, flavors, and over-the-top creations he discovered along the way. But when 2020 brought restaurant visits and travel to a stop, the story took an unexpected turn.
Instead of going out to find great nachos, Alex started making them himself.
He experimented. He pushed the boundaries of what nachos could be. He started writing the recipes down.
And somewhere along the way, nachos stopped being simply a favorite food and became a creative language.
As Alex expanded into food content creation, restaurant promotion, and highlighting local businesses, his enthusiasm and storytelling began opening doors beyond social media.
In 2023, he made his first major cooking appearance on WFSB’s Great Day Connecticut. More television appearances followed, along with restaurant collaborations, original recipes, and a growing reputation that earned him the nickname “Nacho King of Connecticut.”
Then came the next dare:
Could all of this become a book?
In late 2024, Alex connected with the literary agent who would eventually represent him and began developing a cookbook proposal. By April 2025, the idea had landed at Harvard Common Press, an imprint of The Quarto Group.
Alex spent that summer writing the book and photographed it that fall.
In August 2026, the idea that began over two plates of nachos became Totally Nachrageous: Next-Level Nacho Recipes for Parties, Game Days & Crowd-Pleasing Fun, his nationally published debut cookbook featuring approximately 70 original recipes.
But Alex’s story has never been only about nachos.
His television appearances include Bravo’s Below Deck, Hell’s Kitchen, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, along with WFSB’s Great Day Connecticut, WTNH News 8’s Good Morning Connecticut, FOX61, and Connecticut radio. Today, his work spans food, travel, entertainment, and experiences, whether he is creating a new dish with a restaurant, exploring a destination, appearing on television, or bringing people together around a table.
Nachos are fun. They are approachable. They are endlessly creative. And unlike so many foods, they are rarely meant for one person. A great plate of nachos placed in the middle of a table naturally brings people together.
That sense of connection is at the heart of Alex’s work.
What began as a question on New Year’s Eve became a creative pursuit, then a television calling card, then a cookbook, and ultimately something much bigger than the food itself.
Nachos opened the door. Alex built a world around them.
